IPL “photofacial”

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. This treatment is typically done in a series of 4-6 sessions over a period of months and targets brown and red spots on the face, neck, chest, hands and body. Melanocytes in the skin pop out pigment like an umbrella when we are exposed to the sun or have an abrasion or blemish. IPL helps to break up those pigmented areas so that they slough off and become lighter, or even non-existent.

How it works

This treatment is non-ablative and non-invasive. A handpiece is gently placed over the skin and a broad spectrum light is emitted to treat the unwanted pigmentation. The light energy penetrates the tissue causing a controlled injury and is absorbed by the dark spots on the skin. The body removes the injured tissue naturally to create a more even tone. After the treatment the brown and/or red spots will become slightly darker and slough off leaving a more even tone, but will most likely require follow up treatments to reach the desired aesthetic goals. Dr. Stoll may recommend certain medical grade skin care products to help prepare the skin prior to treatment, and also to help maintain the results post treatment.

Does it hurt?

Most patients say that the treatment feels like tiny rubber band snaps on the skin, but doesn’t cause too much discomfort.

If you are suffering from an uneven skin tone on your face, neck, chest, hands and/or body then IPL could be the right treatment for you. Dr. Stoll is a Board Certified Dermatologist that has helped many patients achieve clearer, more vibrant skin and is an expert when it comes to IPL treatments.
